Prepared for Pumpkins

CHICAGO — With white hair, achy bodies, and frustrated looks on their faces, they make their way slowly down the uneven sidewalk along Sheridan Road. But when you look into their eyes, you see nothing but childlike excitement.

Nine residents of the Lakeshore Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, 7200 N. Sheridan Road., anxiously made their way one block down the street Monday morning to a yellow school bus that was waiting to drive them 34 miles to a pumpkin patch in Barrington, Ill.

“I’m really excited,” said Lois Timms, who will celebrate her 81st birthday next week.

“I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch before.”
